Spring has begun!
Even though many places are still shuddering in chill this year, it's time to say goodbye to winter and ushered in spring.
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, spring has begun on last Sunday.
"Lichun 立春" falls on Feb. 4 this year. It is considered the beginning of spring and is the first of the 24 solar terms of the Chinese lunar calendar.
The traditional East Asian lunisolar calendars divide a year into 24 solar terms. Lìchūn is the 1st solar term.
Chinese New Year is also celebrated around this time. Farmers often celebrate the beginning of Lichun with special village events, worship, and offerings to the gods and ceremonies for a blissful and prosperous new year. In China, people eat chūnbǐng (春餅) on this day.
